Why did you choose Kenojuak Ashevak for this collection?
Kenoujak Ashevak is one of the first Inuit artist in the world and the pioneer of the Inuit art movement. I love the perspective, vision and lifestyle of Inuit people. Their way of describing nature, shapes that they use are so unique.
How did you develop the ideas for your NFT?
I read the biography of Kenojuak Ashevak, watched some of her speeches. Then I read about Inuit people and Inuit art as well. After that I created my composition using the portrait of Kenojuak Ashevak and the style of Inuit art.
What do you like about the “Artist’s Artists” Project?
The most impressive side of this project for me is the new generation artists portraying the artists who shape the history of art in their own style and its transformation into an asset in the web3 world.
Hi, who are you?
Hi, my name is Lisa and I’m a freelance illustrator from Hamburg, Germany.
What do you do exactly?
I create dynamic artworks with confident characters, mostly digitally, that convey optimism and power. My favourite subjects are people, especially female read persons and topics like friendship, female empowerment and diversity are close to my heart. Recently I also discovered my joy for painting and I started to translate my digital characters onto traditional painted canvases. When it comes to the professional side, I earn my living with illustrations that I create for international clients, mostly from the editorial or commercial field. I have worked for clients such as Google, Nike, Levi’s or The New Yorker.
What do you love about it?
What I enjoy most about my job is that it’s my passion at the same time. I only ever wanted to draw and to make a living out of that means the world to me. The creative process is exhausting sometimes but the reward after you have created something with your own hands that you've had only in your mind before, is phenomenal. It's crazy how something comes to life after you only have imagined it before.
Why did you choose Hilma af Klint for this collection?
I only learned about Hilma through a friend who told me about these beautiful paintings of a Swedish artist that she saw in a documentary. She was so excited that I had to watch the documentary too and I got as fascinated about Hilma and her art as my friend was. Since then I was a fan. Her abstract world with those organic shapes that float around and merge into each other are beautiful and I just love her color palette. Immediately I knew that I wanted to create the portrait about her because her colors and abstract shapes resonate a lot with me.
How did you develop the idea for your NFT?
I already knew that I wanted to intertwine Hilma herself with parts of her own paintings that I would translate into my own creative language. So in the beginning I simply started to draw Hilma. Then I looked at her paintings again to pick out a few abstract elements that I either would translate into my own or would add some of my shapes that went really well with her style. The rest was only composition work, I mainly only pushed things back and forth until I found the perfect way.
What do you like about the „Artist’s Artists“ Project?
It’s so meta, haha! I just love the idea that different artists interpret different artists. It’s exciting on multiple levels: Seeing the many different styles of current living artists interpreting big artists of art history that you again can learn about or get reminded of. It’s a beautiful way of bringing the community together.
Hi, who are you?
Hi! My name is Danii and I'm a freelance Illustrator based in Hamburg, Germany! I love to create colourful and vibrant artwork that aim to express strength and perseverance. Powerful and dynamic figures displaying that we can all learn and grow even though life is not always easy. I started out as a fashion and textile designer and slowly transitioned to a career in illustration within the last couple of years. Now predominantly working with international clients in the fields of commercial & editorial illustration and packaging! I have worked for clients such as UPS, Volkswagen and Adobe and can't wait to see what the future holds for me!
What do you do exactly?
Creating patterns, commercial illustration for campaigns and branding projects as well as illustrated packaging are my daily business. I mostly work digitally but love to work traditionally once in a while to loosen things up as well as drawing new inspiration in. Painting canvasses, designing scarves or other fabrics is still very much close to my heart and I hope I can find the time to work on very limited pieces from fabric that I painted soon! It's in my head for a while now but never really found the time to concentrate on it fully.
What do you love about it?
Literally everything! I love the freedom of working for myself, being responsible for everything and doing my own thing - how liberating! Also I'm finally able to work creatively which I love the most - sketching and creating beautiful pictures and visual languages that transport emotions and scenes from daily life as well as struggles for all of us to relate to and feel seen.
Why did you choose Benedetta Cappa for this collection?
It was very important for me to work on a woman artist! In my opinion there is not many/enough women artists represented in galleries such as the Louvre, MET or any other Museum except maybe in a couple contemporary ones. Many women didn't have the chance to work on a creative career or a career at all back in the days so I'm all about lifting up the ones that at least had a chance. There is actually quite a few other apart from Frida Carlo so I totally recommend starting to research and find other talented women artist that did not yet have the chance to shine! When it comes to Benedetta I thought her work is mesmerising and super interesting.
How did you develop the ideas for your NFT?
Researching all her work I learnt that she uses a specific colour palette as well as returning shapes she felt drawn to. These I tried to combine and express through my style. Adding a strong and fierce expression to her face which felt like the perfect combination. I hope it worked!
What do you like about the “Artist’s Artists” Project?
It's the perfect way to introduce more artists into the world of NFT´s and crypto. Sebastian is explaining everything and is completely erasing the anxiety and uncertainty that comes naturally when you get out of your comfort zone and start something new! The topic is wonderful - every artist can deeply connect to other artists and it gives the perfect opportunity for artists/ illustrators display their own personal style perfectly.
